Project Utilizing Blue GRC Prefabricated Components and Translucent Concrete

This project features the use of blue GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) prefabricated components, combined with translucent concrete. Despite the challenges associated with maintaining the color stability of blue GRC and the potential for efflorescence due to its seaside location, innovative solutions have been implemented. The integration of translucent concrete, a novel material combining optical fibers and traditional concrete, further enhances the project by allowing light to pass through, creating unique visual effects.

Challenges and Solutions in Using Blue GRC

Color Stability and Efflorescence

  • Color Fastness: The primary challenge with blue GRC components is the tendency for the color to fade or change over time, especially under harsh environmental conditions.

  • Efflorescence Risk: The seaside location increases the risk of efflorescence, where salts from seawater can migrate to the surface and create a white, powdery residue.

  • Solutions: Advanced pigmentation techniques and sealants have been employed to improve color stability and prevent efflorescence, ensuring  the longevity and aesthetic appeal of the blue GRC components.

Features of Translucent Concrete

  • Light Transmission: Translucent concrete incorporates optical fibers within the concrete matrix, allowing light to pass through and creating a glowing effect.

  • Aesthetic Appeal: This material offers a modern and innovative aesthetic, making it suitable for both functional and decorative applications in the project.

  • Durability: Despite its light-transmitting properties, translucent concrete retains the strength and durability of traditional concrete, suitable for structural and decorative uses.
